The City of Long Beach Office of Sustainability is partnering with Green Education, Inc. to host three more Smart Homebuyer Workshops in July and August to support homeowners and new homebuyers in making their homes healthy, comfortable, and environmentally friendly. All workshops will provide interpretation for Spanish, Khmer, and Tagalog. Workshops will be held at Long Beach Gas & Oil Auditorium, 2400 E. Spring Street, Long Beach

The City is in the process of developing a short-term rental (STR) ordinance, and we want to hear from the community on this important effort. A STR is a property that is typically furnished and rented for a short-term stay. STRs can provide several economic benefits, as well as present challenges. THE 30-MINUTE BEACH CLEANUP MEETS on the third Saturday of each month at 10 a.m. at 1 S. Granada Ave. (@ Ocean Blvd., Long Beach, 90803) in Belmont Shore, to help rid the beach of trash and debris. All ages welcome. Free trash bags, gloves, door prizes, volunteer credit forms and refreshments.

The eleven member Sustainable City Commission advises the City Council on environmental issues such as buildings and neighborhoods, urban nature, transportation, water, energy, waste reduction and eco products and services, and is responsible for creating a Sustainable City action plan. 2018 Long Beach Dragon Boat Festival

The 2018 Long Beach Dragon Boat Festival will be held at Marine Stadium (5255 E. Paoli Way, Long Beach, CA 90803) in Long Beach on July 28, from 9am to 6pm and July 29, from 9am to 3:30pm.

In addition to hosting one of the largest dragon boat competitions in California, there will be Chinese traditional art demonstrations, Chinese Acrobats, traditional dance, hip hop, music and martial arts performances.

Register Your Bike

In a continuing effort to combat bike theft and help lost bikes to be returned to their owners, the office of Councilwoman Suzie Price will be hosting a bike registration event on August 4th at the Belmont Pier Promenade. They will be working with the Belmont Pier Business and Resident Association, and will have a number of other booths and businesses involved in helping residents make sure their bikes are registered. The event is free, and results in your bike being included on the nation's largest bike database.
