Letter from Board President Dick Gaylord
Our apologies that our May 3rd meeting had to be cancelled. The Church had a conflict and there was nothing that could be done about it. We will make up for it at our June 7th Anniversary meeting; it is packed with great speakers and great information.
Join us at 6 pm for food, drink and dessert in the Church courtyard. We will also have our election of directors. The candidates are all outstanding residents:
· Angie Degen
· Howard Homan
· David (Coach) Newell
· Phyllis Schmidt
· Bitta Sharma
· Cate Swigart
· David Witzling
Doug Haubert, our hard-working and very popular City Prosecutor will tell us what his office is doing to cut down on crime in Belmont Shore and Belmont Park. He will also save time for questions.
There have been a lot of question as to the future of Community Hospital Long Beach Foundation and we feel fortunate to have Matthew Faulkner, Executive Director of the Community Hospital Long Beach Foundation as a speaker at our June 7th meeting. He will give us an update on where the Foundation, employees and residents are in their efforts to keep the hospital open.
A number of members have requested a Police Update, so a spokesman from the Long Beach Police Department will also be on hand to bring us up to date as to what has been going on in Belmont Shore and Belmont Park.
Rent Control in Long Beach was the topic at our April meeting. Howard Homan, one of our board members, put together a wonderful program; we heard the pros and cons and there were great questions. It was a very informative meeting.
There will be no meeting in July, but don't miss the Friends of Belmont Shore Concert in the Park on August 9th. On September 6th, join us for a presentation by John Kreisler, Director of the Long Beach Economic & Property Development Department.
